The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the African Democratic Congress, ADC, have stated that President Bola Tinubu is not sincere about tackling Nigeria’s security challenges.
In separate statements in Calabar yesterday, the two opposition parties rejected the idea of state police, warning it would undermine democracy, silence opposition, and repeat the failures of state electoral commissions.
Cross River PDP Chairman, Vena Ikem, argued that state police would bury democracy, stressing that even local government autonomy has been frustrated under the control of governors.
ADC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Effiong Nyong, also criticised the administration, saying that since Tinubu took office in 2023, the security situation has worsened despite increased funds from fuel subsidy removal.
The ADC further pointed to the extension of the Inspector General of Police’s tenure as proof that the government lacks seriousness about security.
